The latest phenomenon of online marketing is ‘Social Media’, but what is social media and how can I use it to help my business?
Social Media Marketing is using social interactive websites and web portals to market and promote your business, product or services. Using social media websites like YouTube, Facebook and MySpace a business can make their marketing promotion seem more like a ‘conversation’ between potential customers and the business rather than a ‘calculated marketing pitch choreographed by a professional advertiser’.
In today’s society people want to feel like they are being treated as individuals and have a personal relationship with a company or a brand. They do not want to work with ‘faceless’ organisations. Social Media is used to create that unique, spontaneous personal exchange of information between potential customer and business.
Social Media Promotion allows for an interaction between customer and business, reassuring any worries and highlighting any future developments. Social Media can also be used as a good form of market research, it can be used to collect customer opinion and feedback on your brand and/or service and also your competitors brand and/or service to help you improve your services.
Facebook Advertising Hint & Tip
I thought I would end on a tip for marketing on Facebook. If you have a product that is very similar to a competitors in look and feel, so for example if you design designer clothes and it has a very similar ‘quirky’ look to a famous brand, you can promote your clothes to everyone who has shown and interest in your competitors brand.
This can be an advantage as you already know they like the look and feel of your product and therefore you already know they would be willing to purchase your products if they price and delivery were similar to their favourite brands.
